Hi Irene, Yum!!!!!

I did not like corn as a kid, but my father was enthralled by fresh corn on the cob. We usually got it at the "Corn Stand" on Jefferson Blvd. on our way back from the beach or a day on our boat at Marina Del Rey. I think the stand was owned by the Tapia Brothers, who now have a stand at Burbank & Havenhurst in the Valley.

My dad loved "young corn" with samll kernals. We had a big pot, which I think was also my mom's chicken soup pot ( we did not keep kosher) and the pot would sit on the stove at a boil. When my father decided it was the exact moment to have corn, usually after the other food was eaten, we would boil the corn for exactly three minutes. He also would put fresh, raw corn in salads, as I now do.

I am happy to say that I have developed a taste for corn-on the-cob as an adult. Sometimes, getting older is OK!

Here's to summer corn!
